According to the World Migration Report 2024, just released today, there were 2.4 million encounters at the United States–Mexico border in 2022, the highest on record. “Encounters” constitute both apprehensions and expulsions. This number includes many migrants who tried to enter the United States several times without authorization. The influx has continued to increase in 2023 and 2024.
The United Nations measures people on the move as “stock.” How do they collect this worldwide data unless this is well-funded, organized and systematic?
